Follow us around the Great Loop

Day #314 - Annapolis, MD

June 10th, 2009

Last night a terrible storm developed.

They reported that tornadoes were in the area and we all made sure our boats secure and our lines were adequate.

It was amazing to see the level of the water raise about two feet just from the winds.  The storm passed and we were all no worse for the wear.

We woke up this morning with a beautiful, clear summer day.  We left St. Michaels at 8:00 and headed across the bay to Annapolis.  We have been to Annapolis before for their fall boat show, but never on our boat.  This is sure to be a highlight of the trip.  What a great day to be on the water.

As you approach the harbor you can see the US Naval Academy and it is quite impressive.

This Naval training vessel was loaded with cadets learning the ropes.

Below is the Annapolis harbor as you enter.

We tied up at the Annapolis City Docks.  It is in a great location and we are glad to be here.

The city is so rich in history and gathers around docks and life on the water.

We spent the afternoon touring the US Naval Academy which is right next door to the marina.  More on that tomorrow.

This evening we look forward to the arrival of our Looper friends Charlotte and Bob Snider from Foreign Exchange.  They will stay with us for the night before heading to Norfolk to check on their boat.  Sure to be a fun night.

Weren’t you impressed with the Naval Academy? I was even prouder to be an American when I saw those midshipment walking around campus with such determination! Enjoy Annapolis.
