Follow us around the Great Loop

Day #310 - Oxford, MD

June 6th, 2009

We left Solomons this morning at 8:00.  Deb took the picture of Good News and Salvage Crew still at the dock as Headquarters pulled out.

As you can see it is still an overcast morning.  However, it is predicted to clear by afternoon and the rain has finally stopped.  We waved good bye to Kismet as we left the harbor.  We really enjoyed our time there.

We passed the Port Cove lighthouse.

Notice the large white domes in the background.  They are LNG (liquid natural gas) tanks.  The facility below is the fueling site and it was heavily guarded.

An osprey family has made their home in this pier.  He was standing guard and squawking while she sat on the eggs.

Today we traveled up the Chesapeake to the Tred Avon River and arrived in the historic town of Oxford.  It was a major port during the 17th and 18th centuries and was a center for boat building and tobacco shipping.  Today the population is only about 1,000.

Lovely homes line the shores.

We will be staying for two days at Mears Yacht Haven.

After getting settled and checked in we decided to bike around town.

This is an absolutely charming area.  Margy and Jim Robfogel live here in Oxford.

We first met them in Leland and traveled on and off with them for some time.  They picked us up at the marina and took us to their beautiful home right on the water.

Margy was born in the house next door.

After that we went to Latitude 38 for dinner and had a wonderful time catching up.
