Day #307 - Solomons, MD
June 3rd, 2009This morning we left Deltaville at first light, 5:30 am. We departed as the sun was coming up over the horizon. What a site.

Salvage Crew led the way. The high today was 88, sunny and calm seas and breezes. My kind of cruising.

The trip today took us out into Chesapeake Bay all of the way up to the Patuxent River.
We passed the Naval Air Station Patuxent River which is also the site of The United States Naval Test Pilot School . It provides instruction to experienced Navy, Marine Corps, Army, and Air Force pilots, flight officers, and engineers in the processes and techniques of aircraft and systems testing and evaluation.

They provided us with an air show

and a display from the fire boats.

Thanks, Patti, for the shot of us going through. Pretty great.

Below is a map of the area we will be traveling in. After Solomons we plan visit Oxford, St. Michaels and Annapolis before heading to Baltimore. This is such a beautiful area we want to take our time discovering and not miss anything although you could take years to do it and still not see it all.

Our destination, Spring Cove Marina, is located off the Patuxent River just slightly up Back Creek. We are anxious to discover the Solomons area as many of the boating magazines write about it. It has developed since the 1970s into one of the top cruising destination in the Chesapeake…or so they say. Our trip today to Spring Cove was 61 miles and we arrived at 11:30.

The boat population in this area far outnumbers the human population of less than 2,000. After we left the Patuxent River and entered Back Creek, we passed 14 marinas. Lots and lots of boat and boaters in this community.
