Follow us around the Great Loop

Day #187 - West End, Grand Bahama

February 3rd, 2009

What a wonderful day!  We walked to the reception area of the resort and boarded the shuttle from West End to Freeport ($8 each).  It becomes more and more obvious, the poverty that surrounds the area we are in.  Happy people are everywhere, but they lead very simple lives.  We rode about an hour and stopped in Freeport where we switched shuttles and were taken to Lucaya where the hotels are and the cruise ships come in.

Stopped at a coffee shop that Joe, Judy, Brad and Patti had all stopped at before.  Great coffee and lots of laughs.  From there we went in a few shops and ended up at the marina.  Joe and Judy took a water taxi to check out a marina there and Brad, Patti, Andy and I wandered through the Westin, on the ocean.  Beautiful resort and great frontage.

From there we stopped in the casino and tried out luck.  Brad and Patti had won $800+ a few days ago when they were there.  I bought $10 worth of quarters and 45 minutes later I was plus $1.25.  Big win for me and now I have quarters left over for laundry.

We met back up with Joe and Judy and went to Agave (Latin food) for lunch.  While we were eating lunch, Brad disappeared for a few minutes and came back with beads in his hair (keep in mind he was wearing a pressed Polo shirt and loafers, get the picture?!?!).

Long story, but thought we were going to die laughing.  Patti’s expression tells it all.

Left there and walked around a bit more and headed back to Freeport for the grocery store and vegetable market.  In the US we are so spoiled as far as selection goes.  Got the few things we thought we needed and headed back to the marina.

Great day, start to finish and glad to report, my ankle held me up all day.

Weather looks like we will be here several more days.  Not so bad, great place and really great people.
