Follow us around the Great Loop

Day #103 - Mobile, AL

November 11th, 2008

Another beautiful day in Mobile, high of 68 and sunny. Today is the big day that the shaft and propeller are supposed to be reinstalled.

We started the day running errands before we had to return the rental car.  Came back to the boat and started cleaning and Andy changed the oil in anticipation of leaving tomorrow for our next port.  After ten days at Dog River, as nice as everyone has been, we are anxious to move on.  No sooner did Andy drain the oil and I changed into cleaning attire, they came and said they were ready to pull the boat.  We would have to get off for two to three hours.

George and Shane worked really hard and seemed very thorough as they changed the shaft and prop.  We took the time to clean and wax the water line while the boat was out of the water.  We had the yard polish and wax from the rub rail up so we should be good to go into the salt water from here.

They finished the job and put it back in the water.  Unfortunately, it was too late to do the sea trial, so that will have to wait until tomorrow.  Hope to get that finished, pay the bill and be on our way.

They are working on a variety of boats here in the yard, probably the most interesting of all is this eighty year old shrimp boat. They pulled it and water rushed out through the boards.  They are replacing a few and plan to put it back in the water.

The end to a productive day and hoping to be back on the move tomorrow.
