Day #95 - Three Rivers Lake, AL
November 4th, 2008The fog was light as we left Bobby’s at 7:00 and were through the Coffeeville Lock by 7:40. That was our final lock on the river system, yeah! We are now at 4′ above sea level and will be dealing with tides. Something new to learn.
We are headed with Headquarters to Three Rivers Lake, AL for an anchorage for the night. 63 miles from the start which makes for a short day. The river twists and turns for almost the complete trip. It is a series of switchbacks that are unbelievable.

For November 3rd this weather is unbelievable. Ten days in a row of sunshine and highs in the 70s. Still going down to about 40 at night which makes it great for sleeping.

We spotted four alligators along the shore today. They are hard to spot as they are so mud-caked that they blend right into the shoreline. We even spotted one lurking under the water as we entered our anchorage.
The anchorage at Three Rivers Lake is beautiful. Very shallow coming down the river before it opens up into the lake. Skipper Bob didn’t let us down though as his instructions were perfect. The depth fell to two feet below the keel. Andy and Bob were radioing back and forth and a local boater chimed in to tell them the best way to navigate it. Tide is low right now and will be at high tide at midnight so up a couple of feet when we leave in the morning.

After arriving, we went for a beautiful dinghy ride. The lake goes on and on and into inlets and coves. Lots of snowy egrets and fish as we traveled back into the shallow waters. Not real sunset to speak of, but the stars were amazing, they came right down to touch the water it seemed. Andy even saw a meteorite flash through the ski, it was green with a tail and sparking. Beautiful day and night.
