Follow us around the Great Loop

Day #93 - Demopolis, AL

November 1st, 2008

A quiet, sunny and warm day here in Demopolis for us.  We needed it after the tracks we have been making the last few days.  Did the usual day off events, washed the boat, laundry (thanks to Debbie for the photo!), grocery shopping, etc. and much desired siestas.

Very much like I expected it here.  Nice people, slow pace and certainly different than we are used to.  Andy is considering buying some camouflage clothing so he fits in better.  Not too sure what we can do about the lack of an accent.  We have encountered a new sport Andy is thinking of taking up.  It is called catfish noodling and thought you might enjoy joining him.  Check out http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=biL-QcviQGk to learn more.

Headed over for a Captain’s meeting at 5:30 with the boats that are here and will be leaving with us tomorrow.  It really helps if everyone is ready to go at the same time in the morning as there is a lock three miles away and we can all lock through together.  We have about 217 miles to go and two locks left to make it to Mobile.  Headed for Bashi Creek, then Bates Lake and into Mobile.  Will be long days and two nights in a row at anchor, but we are all anxious to make it to Mobile.  Thank goodness the weather remains sunny and clear as it helps to maintain the crew’s spirits.

Probably will not have cell or internet until Mobile.
